New Year’s Goals – Progress Update – Six Months

It seems like our expenses just keep increasing now that we have two kids.  I’m having a difficult time adjusting to the higher costs, and trying to determine what’s needed because of the kids and what could just be considered lifestyle creep.  Here’s an update on my 2013 New Year’s Goals:

1) Reduce debt by 68.33%.
Target: 32.68%, Actual: 22.19%.  We got behind because we decided to save some money to finish our basement ourselves.  We have enough saved to start making some serious progress, but we might have to stop and save some more later in the year. We can now focus on debt again.  This month, we actually hit what the target was, but we are just behind from previous months.  Here’s a graph of the progress so far:

2) Run a 5k.
I didn’t get to run much in June.  Megan joined a bootcamp class twice a week, and I play volleyball once a week.  That cut out three days a week during my prime running time, and it’s been difficult adjusting to it.  I only ended up running once, but we did get to go on a long bike ride (18 miles) this past weekend.

3) Complete a bike race.
I got to get on the bike for the first time since our second kid was born!  The in-laws were in town this past weekend, so Megan and I rode together for 18 miles.  We both had strep throat, and it rained hard for part of the ride, but we didn’t care.  It was nice to get out on the bikes again.
